British Isles Dancing

The British Isles Dancers of Norfolk do English and Scottish country dancing.  Both styles of dance are similar to Contra in the sets of dancers but differ in style and tempo.  English dances are both traditional (composed in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries) and contemporary (composed in the last 25 years.)  The Scottish Country dances are published by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) and from other sources.

There are several Balls held close by, in Richmond, Williamsburg and Louisa, VA.  The dances to be done are announced in advance.  Dancers attend the Balls in period costumes, which set an atmosphere of celebration from another era gone by.

The group also does demonstrations in the Hampton Roads area, such as the Harvest Faire in Newport News and at various historic houses.
